Casa Loros Bed & Breakfast

Progress Report

March, 2006

This is the Casa Loros Progress Report for March, 2006.  Remember to click on the thumbnails to enlarge the photos.

These photos were taken during the week of March 5 thru March 11, 2006.  It was during this time that the panels from which the house will be constructed began to arrive on the property.  We begin by showing you scenes of Calle Hermosa (Beautiful Street) and the road up the mountain.  These photos are followed by shots of the panels being loaded onto the crane truck which climbs the mountain road and delivers them to the property where they are unloaded.  The sequence of the panels being taken up requires serious consideration.  The panels that are to be used last are taken first.

Each group of photos is immediately followed by a description of each picture left to right.

1) The first photo shows the street, Calle Hermosa, which connects the communities in the area to the Costanera, the Coast Highway.  This shot was taken in the morning looking toward the East.

2) This one is also of Calle Hermosa, but looking toward the West where the Pacific Ocean and the Costanera are found.  There are several homes along Calle Hermosa, as well as a newly-built bridge and a school.

3) This shows the lowest point of the road taking us from Calle Hermosa up to the property on top of the mountain.  Yep, that's cement, but it stops just past the electric pole.  On the left, you can see a portion of the first house on the mountain.

4, 5, 6, 7) The remaining photos are of various portions of the road that takes us up to the property.  The last one is almost at the top.  There is a plateau owned by our neighbor.  Once you arrive on the plateau, you make almost a left U-turn and drive up the slope you see.  At the top of the slope, the road turns to the left and our lower drive-way is accessed by turning right.

8) This is the face of the upper lot.  The house will "hang" over the edge of the top and its lower front will rest on the raised area.  My son, Chris, is standing on the upper plateau.

9, 10, 11, 12) The first four photos on this line are of workmen from Doug's (our builder) plant loading roof panels on the crane truck for transport up to the property.  The panels are made to be flexible and have an R-10 insulation rating.

13, 14) These photos show the first and second sets of six roof panels each sitting on the property.  Also shown are rebar cages which will be used to build the footers and foundation.

15, 16) These photos show the crane truck backing down the lower driveway.  It's the only way to get the truck down because its turning radius is so wide.

17, 18) These two photos were sent to us on April 11, 2006 by our Architect, Juan Carlos Sibaja.  They show that many of the panels from which Casa Loros will be constructed have arrived on the property!
